Governance

NBR’s operations are governed by the Board of Directors, a nationally prominent group of leaders with long-term interests in the Asia-Pacific region. NBR’s research agenda is developed in consultation with the Board of Advisors, which consists of experts from research centers, universities, and corporations.

John V. Rindlaub

John V. Rindlaub has served on NBR's Board of Directors since 1995. Mr. Rindlaub joined Wells Fargo effective February 2002 as Chief Executive Officer for the Pacific Northwest region including operations in Oregon and Washington. Mr. Rindlaub's responsibilities include commercial banking, community leadership, and setting and executing the company's overall growth strategy in this region.

Mr. Rindlaub retired from Bank of America at year-end 2001. His responsibilities at the bank included his roles as President and Commercial Bank Executive, Bank of America Northwest, and Chairman, Bank of America Asia. As President of Bank of America Northwest, he was responsible for coordinating all activities of the bank in Washington, Oregon, and Idaho. In addition, he directly oversaw operations of the commercial bank in the Northwest and was also responsible for the bank's retail and commercial banking business in Hong Kong and Macao.

Mr. Rindlaub joined Bank of America in 1989 as Manager of the Asia Division. Based in Hong Kong, he was responsible for the bank's wholesale investment banking and trading activities throughout Asia and Australia. He moved to Seattle in 1993 to assume the position of Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Seafirst Bank. In 1994 he was named Northwest region head, and in 1997 was given responsibility for Worldwide Technology Strategy for Bank of America's retail and commercial activities. He was named Northwest Commercial Banking Executive in 2001.

Prior to joining Bank of America, Mr. Rindlaub was Managing Director of Bankers Trust's Mergers and Acquisitions Financial Institutions team. He began his banking career with Bankers Trust in 1969 and served in that bank's National and World Corporate departments in the role of division head for the Central, New York City and Airlines & Aerospace, and Japan Divisions, respectively.

Mr. Rindlaub earned a bachelor's degree in economics from Bucknell University in Lewisburg, Pennsylvania. He served as an officer in the U.S. Navy from 1966 to 1969. He retired as a lieutenant after assignments on the East Coast and Vietnam.

Mr. Rindlaub is a Director of Alaska Airlines and Saltchuk Resources, Inc. In the not-for-profit sector, Mr. Rindlaub is a trustee and past Chair of the Greater Seattle Chamber of Commerce, a member of the University of Washington Business School Advisory Board, and Director and Treasurer of The National Bureau of Asian Research. Mr. Rindlaub is also a Director and past President of the Washington Roundtable. He is also a past Director and past Chairman of the Pacific Science Center, and past Director and past Chairman of the Children's Hospital Foundation. Mr. Rindlaub previously served as Vice Chairman of the Washington State Governor's Blue Ribbon Commission on Transportation and as a Director for seven years with the Federal Reserve 12th District.
