NBR hosts email discussion forums that examine U.S. policy in different regions. In each forum, thought-provoking contributions regularly made by scholars, journalists, business people, government officials, and other individuals create a lively atmosphere for debate.
NBR, with full support and funding from the Japan-U.S. Friendship Commission (JUSFC), launched in December 2000 an electronic discussion forum for those interested in issues surrounding Japan-U.S. relations, Japanese politics, economics, social issues, history, and security. The Japan Forum provides an opportunity for in-depth and focused discussion and exchange of information and ideas among individuals who seek to further their understanding of contemporary Japanese affairs. To ensure appropriate, relevant discussion, Dr. Edward G. Griffin, Professorial Lecturer in History and International Affairs at George Washington University, moderates the Forum. Access the forum here.
Moderated by William Abnett, Former Director of Chinese Affairs at the U.S. Trade Representative and Senior Advisor at NBR. This private email forum hosts U.S. policymakers and select specialists in the academic and business communities. Over the past few years, it has continuously identified and discussed specific developments, issues, and obstacles to China’s implementation of practices and standards since its accession to the World Trade Organization (WTO). Membership to the forum is at the discretion of the forum moderator—please contact NBR if you are interested.
This forum covers both Russia’s WTO accession bid and a range of other issues that reflect how globalization is affecting Russia’s economy and politics. Policies concerning economic reform, foreign investment, intellectual property rights, and foreign relations, including proposed regional trade agreements and the WTO-accession bids of Ukraine, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, and Belarus, are frequently addressed in forum postings.
Forum members receive regular updates that they can discuss online with other forum members. Members of the forum’s Contributing Board and the moderator shape the forum’s general agenda, but all members are welcome to initiate discussion and/or suggest new topics for postings.
